Lord Mahavira Idol Defaced in Lucknow

                 

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), August 17, 2012: An idol of Lord Mahavira at Bhagawan Mahavir Park in the Daliganj area of Lucknow has been defaced by a group of Muslims in the name of Asam Hinsa after Alvida Namaz on Friday August 17, 2012.

This has led to a series of outbursts by the members of Jain community across the world. Jains have taken the matter seriously and have condemned the vandalism in hard words.  

It can be recalled here that The 9 feet high padmasana idol of Lord Mahavira had been installed on April 25, 2002. The Government of Uttar Pradesh had installed this idol on the occasion of 2600th birth anniversary (Janma Kalyana - Jayanthi) of Lord Mahavira. The park earlier called as Hathi Park had been renamed as Bhagawan Mahavir park. The idol of Lord Mahavira had been brought in a procession by the members of Jain community led by Acharya 108 Sri Viveksagarji Maharaj and other Jain ascetics.

Guwahati teen sexually assaulted by Mob

Guwahati: For nearly 30 minutes, a Class 11 student was molested outside a pub in Guwahati by a group of nearly 20 men. On Monday night, the police rescued the girl and handed her over to her parents, but did not make any arrests.

Three people were arrested two days after the atrocity but many still remain free. BJP leader Sushma Swaraj tweeted "we will not let this go unpunished" and said Mrs Bijoya Chakravarty, the party MP from Guwahati, had met the Director General of Police this evening.

The victim was molested when she was returning home after a party at a city bar on Monday. The amateur video shows the mob, consisting of around 20 men, beating the girl before stripping her.

The three people arrested by the police have been charged with trying to outrage the modesty of a girl.

"Three people have been arrested and three others are evading arrest. They, however, have been identified," said Apurba Barua, Senior Superintendent of Police, Assam Police

Cable TV digitalisation deadline postpone by 4 months

The much-trumpeted digitalisation of Cable TV services in four metros will now have to wait for four months beyond July 1, when it was originally scheduled to be introduced.
The decision to defer the plan for switchover from analogue to digitalised signals was announced by the government today as it was found that the metros of Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai and Kolkata were not ready for it.
"The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting has decided to modify the 30th June deadline for a complete switch over to October 31, 2012," a statement issued by the I&B ministry 
                                                     today said.
"All the TRAI regulations for Digital Addressable System will come into effect from 1st November, 2012," the statement added. Read More... >>
